Marjane Satrapi

Dear Marjane Satrapi,
I just recently finished reading your book, Persepolis, and it really made me think even deeply of what Iran people were going through and how social class made a very big difference in people's lives. It was an interesting book because I learned so much and saw and felt what you were going through when you were a little kid. I can say that what Iran people are going through, is almost what Americans is going through also. We know how you are feeling. For example, in the book you mention that the younger boys are promised to have a better life if they go to war and they will get everything they want later on. It is the exactly the same thing in America, recruiters from the army or navy will try to recruit the younger teenagers even girls, and they get a better education with everything paid off. Parents will be hurt and sad that their kids are choosing this route because their kids are putting their lives in risk. Another thing you mention is that social class does not matter and everyone should be equal. I really agree to you especially if you are in love and even though both are from different social class, none should stop it. They should be able to be with each other and not let social class pull them apart. I see them happening to my friends because of their parents disagreeing to their partners, and it just makes life so much harder. I really admired how you are so braved and wants to stand up for your country at such a young age. You are a role model to your peers. I was wondering did you write "Persepolis" to let readers know what you were experiencing through or what really motivate you to publish this book? Your book was very interesting to read and it is the book of the year at Cal State L.A., which says how great your book was. I really enjoyed reading it and hopefully I get to read more future books from you.

Sincerely,
Vivi Lee
