Dear Marjane Satrapi,
I wonder how my life would been if I was living in Iran in the eighties. I picture my life in Iran and it is not very different than life in the United States. Reading Persepolis, has made me view even more the way the world is. In the United States, everything is seen to be perfect, but in reality it is not. The United States and Iran are very alike. We are brain washed to think that we are all equal, but honestly no one is treated the same that is why we still have social class everywhere. Except that in the eighties we were allowed to have slaves like Satrapi use to have a slave. Now it is illegal to have a slave. You can get arrested for having a slave. We now call them housekeepers and they get paid. Which is a good thing that they get paid. The book Persepolis, is more like a diary to me. I myself has a diary. My diary is very different from the book Persepolis. Satrapi's book talks more about very very serious things including war. It is crazy how Satrapi was only ten and was always involved in adult conversations as well as in dangerous protests. I am surprised how intelligent Satrapi is. At ten I was most likely watching cartoons and clueless about politics. It amazed me how hungry Satrapi was to be heard for what she thought the government was doing wrong. She was not afraid to get out there and show her believes. I wonder if Satrapi has visited Iran recently.?
